Golan Heights – Israel

Golan Heights – Israel

Known locally as Rujm el-Hiri, or the “Wheel of Ghosts,” this 4,500-year-old megalithic monument sprawls across the Golan Heights of Israel. Built between 4500 and 2300 BC, it’s made of basalt stones arranged in massive concentric rings around a central cairn — stretching 150 meters (492 feet) wide. For decades, many thought it served as an ancient observatory, its openings aligned with the summer solstice, equinoxes, and lunar cycles. But recent geological research revealed something extraordinary — the entire structure has slowly rotated counterclockwise over millennia, caused by tectonic movement along the Jordan Rift Valley. That means its original celestial alignments may no longer match what we see today. Whether the builders understood that the earth beneath them would one day shift remains an open question — one more layer of mystery surrounding this monumental ring of stone. #RujmelHiri #WheelOfGhosts #AncientAstronomy #MegalithicSites #Archaeology #GolanHeights #AncientHistory #WorldHeritage #AncientStructures
