Garni Temple - a Greco- Roman heritage in Armenia đĻđ˛ Nestled amidst rocky gorges and breathtaking scenery in central Armenia, the Garni Temple appears like a classic mirage in the Caucasian landscape. With its impeccable Ionic columns and monumental staircase, it is the only surviving Hellenistic temple in Armenia, a stone bridge between the Mediterranean and the Armenian world. Built in 1st Century AD, under King Tiridates I, possibly with the support of Emperor Nero, the temple was dedicated to the sun god Mihr, a traditional Armenian god. Its architecture, inspired by Greco- Roman models, reflects Armenia's cultural and political ties with the Roman Empire and the Hellenistic world. Collapsed by an earthquake in the 17th Century AD, it was rebuilt in the sixties and today represents one of the strongest identical symbols of Armenia.
