Statue of Liberty – New York, USA. A lesser-known fact about the Statue of Liberty is that she wasn’t originally green! When the statue was unveiled in 1886, it was a shiny reddish-brown color due to its copper exterior.

Over the next 20 years, the copper reacted with air and moisture, forming a green patina. Interestingly, there was debate in the early 1900s about whether to clean off the patina, but it was ultimately left intact because it actually protects the statue from further corrosion.
